GIFTED ACTIVITIES



SCIENCE OLYMPIAD WINNERS
Congratulations to Kylie Kikta and Rachel Moore for their second place win at the Science Olympiad, which was held on March 24 at California University of Pennsylvania.  Their competition was called "Physical Science Lab."  The two young ladies built a fan from a compact disk.  Fans were rated by the amount of voltage they generated on high and low speeds.  Kylie and Rachel's fan generated the most on the low speed and earned them a second place medal!
Other students participating in the event include  Michelle Wright, Joe Cervone, Mitch McCloskey, Lisa Manderino, AJ Cocciolone, Dennis Lynn, Zach Carson, Corey Beard, Michael Vaughn, Tyler Thomas, Steve Stulock, Tom Crawford, Julian Monticelli, Matthew McCloskey, and Daniel Bednarczyk.



NATIONAL HISTORY DAY WINNER

On March 4, Liz Gerda attended the Primary Source History Day Competition at California University of Pennsylvania.  Students from the middle and high schools submitted projects and essays which were judged for relevance and expression of the chosen theme and how well the student knew the topic.

Liz's essay on Penicillin garnered her a First Place win, and she will compete in the national competition Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Congratulations to the Southwest Academic League Junior Varsity Quiz Bowl Team.  They took first place in the Eastern Division and placed second overall in the March tournament.

MOCK TRIAL COMPETITIONS
Breanne Bachovchin, Allison White,  Emily Ritchie, Emily Necciai and Derek Stricklin represented our Gifted Program at the Mock Trial Competitions, which were held on February 4 and 18.

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity Southwest Academic Quiz Bowl League members for continuing to remain undefeated after their competition on December 10.  Winning team members Mario Leone, Nick Gruber, Nick Sewchek, and Julian Monticelli (who was high scorer for the day!

Congratulations to Seth Gregor for winning the Chess Tournament held on December 18.   Seth placed first out of about 30 students competing.
