GILMORE SETS AMERICAN RECORD!

One of our varsity cheerleaders, Kayla Gilmore, competed in her very first dead lift competition, the ADAU (Anti-Drug Athletes United) Coal Country Classic.  For dead lift competitions, the competitor gets three attempts to make a pull.  Kayla's three attempts were 250, 275, and 300.  Because, all three of her attempts were successful, she was permitted a fourth attempt at 310 pounds.  Kaylaa broke the American record for her age and weight class three times that day.  The previous record had been 265 pounds.

Congratulations, Kayla!

PERFECT MATH SAT SCORE!!!

Senior Jarrod Musiak has accomplished quite the task—He earned a perfect score on the Math Section of the SAT.  The SAT Reasoning Test (formerly Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States.

The Mathematics section of the SAT is widely known as the Quantitative Section or Calculation Section. The mathematics section consists of three scored sections. There are two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section, as follows:

  • One of the 25-minute sections is entirely multiple choice, with 20 questions.
  • The other 25-minute section contains 8 multiple choice questions and 10 grid-in questions. The 10 grid-in questions have no penalty for incorrect answers because the student guessing is limited.
  • The 20-minute section is all multiple choice, with 16 questions.

Of a possible score of 800, the 2008 average national math score was 515 (Wikipedia).

Among his various accomplishments, Jarrod is a student in our Gifted Program and is a member of the National Honor Society.  He is well on his way to a great future, and we are very proud of his achievement!

BVA is Proud of You, Jarrod!!
